Activities for students

ArtStarts offers a variety of ways for students to get engaged in the arts in their schools and communities.

ArtStarts Gallery

Visiting Vancouver for a field trip? The ArtStarts Gallery, located in downtown Vancouver, is the first gallery in Canada dedicated exclusively to young people’s art. The gallery provides kids an opportunity to view work produced by their peers in collaboration with professional artists. Call in advance to book a gallery tour for your class!

Exhibition Archive

Our Exhibition Archive features a searchable database of all ArtStarts exhibitions and special projects to date. Students can browse online to find inspiration, view slideshows, and read descriptions of their peers’ artwork.

Arts & Culture Week

A week-long celebration held every year at the end of April, Arts & Culture Week turns the spotlight on the vital contribution that arts and culture make in learning and in life. Participate by planning and hosting an event or exhibition. Browse some of the events from past years here.

ArtStarts on Saturdays

ArtStarts on Saturdays is a free workshop series at our downtown Vancouver gallery that features 45-minute, multi-disciplinary, culturally diverse workshops led by some of BC's best children’s performers. Workshops are ideal for 5-10 year-olds, but all ages are welcome.

Special Projects

From time-to-time, ArtStarts engages in special arts-based projects with schools and the community. In the past, these have ranged from student-produced bus-shelter art, to an exhibition of environmentally-inspired artwork at Metropolis at Metrotown. A list of past projects is available in our Exhibition Archive. Notices about upcoming projects will be posted on our website.
